The Final Day/Closing ceremony
The 37th National Women Challenger Chess Championship 2010 came to a glittering end here today. The Mega event hosted for first time in the state of Assam began on 20th of August with the participating of 84 players from 21 states from across the state.
In the final round overnight leader Amrutha Mokal was beaten by Sonakshi Rathore while Rucha Pujari got the better of A Sithalachumi to claim the championship. All other games as expected till the 10th board were drawn quickly. On the top board Amrutha playing white started with the king pawn to which Sonakshi replied with d5 which led to the centre counter opening. The opening moves suggested that Sonakshi was well prepared for Amrutha and would go all out to upset the tournament leader. However as usual Amrutha played solidly and didn't give any opening advantage to black. However the immense pressure of the event finally got to her as she played couple of weak moves and sonakshi took advantage of it and bagged the full point. This proved helpful for Rucha as she outplayed Sithalachumi and claimed the championship.
The chief guest of the closing ceremony was Dr Himanta Biswa Sharma, Health Minister, Government of Assam in the presence of Riniky Bhuyun Sarma,CMD, Newslive, Nisith kulasetra, market head Aircel NE region, Partha Gogoi, regional director, health and family welfare govt of India, Rajiv kumar bora, chairman organising committee, Bibhuti Gogoi, President All Assam Chess Association and many other dignitaries.
