Assam to host National Women Challenger Championship

AICF GS DV Sundar visits GuwahatiThe All Assam Chess Association will host the "Women's National Challengers Chess Championship" at Guwahati, Assam from 20th to 31st August 2010.

This was revealed by the General Secretary of All India Chess Federation, Mr. DV Sundar. Talking to the media persons in the city of Guwahati Mr. Sundar intimated that all the leading women chess players of the country barring the Grand Masters would take part in the tournament.


The venue for the tournament would be the "Tarun Ram Phookan indoor stadium" subject to availability of the premise.

Mr. Sundar added that, the AICF will arrange for coaching of 10-15 youngsters from the state by an International Master. He praised the AACA for being a "responsive and responsible" association.

'Assam has a great future in Chess'

All Assam Chess Association will organise the "National Women Challenger ChessChampionship 2010" at Guwahati from 20 to 31 August 2010. This was stated in a press conference held at the Assam Olympic Association office in the city today. D.V. Sundar, General Secretary, All India Chess Federation appreciated the efforts of All Assam Chess Association and praised the secretary of AACA Arindam Barua for agreeing to hold such a mega event in the city. Sundar who flew down all the way from Chennai to inspect the venue and other facilities in Guwahati expressed satisfaction at the facility available and hoped that the conduction of the Nationals will boost the moral of the Chess enthusiast of the State and produce National champions in the future.

Sundar along with Arindam Barua and Biswajit Bharadwaj also visited Sarala Birla Gyan Jyoti School in Amingaon which has introduced chess in the school and expressed great joy to see chess being promoted in such a beautiful way.

Arindam Barua, secretary, AACA spoke about the National Women championship and said that 150 top players from all over the country are expected in this top national event. The top 20 players from this event will be selected for the National Women Premier Championship 2010 from which the Indian team will be selected for the Chess Olympiad.

Assam to host chess meet


Assam will host the Women's national challengers here from August 20 to 31. D.V Sundar, the secretary of the All India Chess Federation, said today.

Sundar said he had inspected a few venues for the meet and had no doubt that the state would do a great job.

Twenty players from the challengers will qualify for the premier, with six contenders finally chosen to represent the country.

He praised the Assam unit for being a "responsive and responsible"
association and said the state had great potential.

The federation, he added, had arranged for the coaching of 10-15 youngsters of the state by an international master.

National women chess tourney in city


The Assam Chess Assoaiaion (ACA) will host the Women National Challenger Chess Championship here in the city from August 20 to 31.

The secretary of the All India Chess Federation DV Sundar, who is in the city in connection with the ongoing Senior National TT Championship, intimated the media that all the leading women chess players of
the country, barring the Grand Masters would take part in the meet which is likely to be organised at the Tarun Ram Phookan indoor Stadium subject to the arailability of the stadium.

Sundar said today he visited various venues like Sarla Birla Gyanjyoti School, Silpagram, Kalakhetra, etc., and found all the places quite favourable for the championship. But most favour holding the meet in
the Tarun Ram Phookan stadium.

He further revealed that the top 20 position holders of this competition will qualify for the national premier championship.

Sundar praised the ACA officials for their activities and that was the reason that the national meet has been allotted to Assam. He also informed the federation will send an International Master to train youngsters of the State.

ACA secretary Arindam Baruah said they are planning to host a Grand Masters' meet soon.

Guwahati to host National Chess

Though the venue of the tournament is yer to be finalized but Deshbhakta Tarun Ram Phukan Indoor Stadium are among rbe few venues which are shortlisted to organize the meet. He also added
that the top 20 players from this event will be selected for the National women Premier Championship.
